“A human being is part of the whole, called by us the "universe." a part limited in time and space. He
experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest - a kind of optical
delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a prison, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection
for a few persons close to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circles of
compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.”
 - Albert Einstein
I believe as a nation our hearts are going out to the many, many people who were hit by the tragic storm, Katrina.
For the most part, I don’t watch the news.  I believe that it is important to monitor what we take in.  If all we did
was stay abreast of the many, many tragedies occurring every day . . . we would likely either become numb and
immune to what we were hearing (a way for our psyche to survive) or we’d become depressed and negative.
Neither of these options is very good, but I believe we can selectively and responsibly take-in world events.
For the first couple days of Katrina, I was oblivious.  I had only seen a headline on the internet and then my neighbor
began talking about the widespread devastation.  I turned on the TV and began watching the coverage.   It's absolutely
heartbreaking so I've only watched short segments at a time.
Our nations collective consciousness is deeply wounded right now, but because we are interconnected we can make
a difference by being peace, thinking peace, by meditating, by praying, by doing Reiki, by opening our hearts and
by limiting our exposure.  Ironically, by taking care of ourselves, we help the world.  By meditating (even solo in our
living rooms) we can help generate peace and thereby positively affect tthe world.  (It is proven that if 1% of an area
meditates, the quality of life for the entire area rises).
Of course, we can also help in concrete and tangible ways too.  We can donate money, lend our time, package
and send goods (they are asking for clothing, household goods, blankets, etc.) or even donate blood.  Anything we
 do makes a difference.
So take a moment to send your love and blessings to all those affected at this time.  Our individual and collective
thoughts, intentions and actions do matter.
